PPES Schoolwide Discipline Program
Without order in the classroom, teachers can’t teach and students can’t learn. PPES Schoolwide Discipline Program was designed to help schools establish and maintain order. Developed by Phyllis A. Porter, PPESSDP works by increasing student motivation and self-discipline, equipping students to share in the responsibility for classroom management and discipline. Program materials also emphasize that PPESSDP is “not a packaged discipline program—one site does not fit all.
Type of Model
Discipline & Classroom Management
Grades K - 12 (General & Special Education Classrooms)
On-site Disciplinarian, five (5) days a week. Disciplinarian will oversee entire Discipline Program which includes: In-School Suspension, Detention and Teacher/Student/Parent Recognition Program.
PPESSDP is not an academic program and provides little in the way of student curricula. However, the program does contain components that may be used to help teach democratic principles and strengthen students’ reading, writing and math skills. All material will be provided by PPES.
Instructional Support/Professional Development For Teachers
PPESSDP includes four phases of professional development: awareness, implementation, follow-up, and sustaining support. The implementation phase typically consists of two on-site training sessions led by PPES staff prior to implementation. These are followed by two additional sessions, usually held in September and January. Sustaining support is provided in years two and three, during which an orientation training session and occasional workshops are provided to new teachers.
Cost of Implementation
Price varies depending on the size of the school. Cost for initial implementation for a school of about 300-500 students is estimated at roughly $60,000 a full year and $30,000 a half year.
